Winpe Ignite sessions made a resounding comeback with the PEVC Career Talk Series on the 14th December 2024. The topic of the session was- Navigating the Path to PEVC: Preparation and Experiences in the Industry. It focused on guiding participants through the intricacies of building a successful career in the Private Equity and Venture Capital (PEVC) industry. The event brought together PEVC professionals who shared their unique journeys and perspectives on how to transition to a career in PEVC.

The cherry on the cake was the acknowledgment for Winpe’s significant work in equipping women with the skills needed for roles in the PEVC industry.

• Career Pathways in PEVC:

  There are multiple career paths available within the PEVC sector such as investing, operations, finance, compliance, investor relations, fund raising roles and other emerging roles in areas such as ESG.

• Skillsets required:

  For investing roles, include technical skills such as expertise in financial modelling, advanced proficiency in excel, accounting concepts and in-depth sector specific knowledge to drive strategic decision making. Strong soft skills are equally important such as communication and articulation, presentation skills, a curious and inquisitive mindset and exceptional people skills to build relationships.

• Investment stages:

  Distinct stages such as early stage, growth stage and buyout investing need unique skills. Each stage requires a blend of financial acumen, strategic thinking and sector specific industry knowledge as well specific skills as per the stage of investment.

• Mentorship Matters:

  Mentorship can be a key enabler for career advancement. One can seek mentors even through cold emails and get advice on how to navigate challenges and opportunities in the industry.

• Networking & Leveraging Industry Events:

  Summits, conferences, and knowledge sessions were identified as valuable platforms for expanding professional networks, gaining market insights, and finding potential mentors.
